The Yarn That Does It All (Yes, Really)

Cascade's Cherub Lines . . .

Cascade's Cherub Lines . . .

There’s a moment every knitter, crocheter and machine knitter recognizes. You’re standing in front of a wall of yarn, turning skeins over like you’re reading tea leaves, wondering which one will behave, which one will betray you halfway through a project, and which one will actually feel as good on the needles as it promised on the label.

Cascade Cherub quietly solves that problem.

Knitcraft stocks 4 weights in the Cascade Yarns Cherub family. Instead of feeling like four totally different yarns, you will find that when you work with the different weights, the drape, elasticity, stitch definition, texture, blocking behavior and density all are similar.

If you are designing for resale, whether it is in a gift shop, Etsy or a bazaar, understanding the behavior of your yarn allows you to focus on unique designs without testing the behavior of the yarn each time.

All Cascade Yarns Cherub lines are 50% Acrylic and 50% Nylon.  Super soft! Washable, and very affordable.

Now, let's talk about the Individual Cherub lines!

Cherub Baby. This is a thin fingering weight. Comes in 50-gram balls, so you don't have a big investment for small projects or testing of colors. Also, this allows you really dig in with some great fairisle projects! The fabric is a delicate and very drapey.  Even when crocheted the fabric is still very soft and drapey. Cherub Baby would work up nicely on the Silver Reed Standard Gauge Knitting Machines (
SK280 or the SK840)
Cherub DK. While this is called a DK, due to its blend, it works up in between a sport and a DK weight. So, we call it a Light DK.  Cherub DK also comes in 50-gram balls, so again, a small investment for small projects, testing colors and multicolor projects. The fabric will be slightly thicker but is still somewhat delicate and has great drape. Cascade Yarns has really blown out the rainbow with nearly 60 colors at the time of writing this article. Perfect weight for the mid-gauge LK150 knitting machine.

Cherub Aran is the best-selling of the 4 Cherub lines. It is a light worsted, and like the others, very soft. Aran weight is commonly referred to as a heavy worsted.  When in fact, we find that Cherub Aran is a light worsted, between DK and Worsted. It is put up into 100-gram balls, because it is designed for larger projects that require more yardage. 1 ball will do 1 baby hat, maybe 2.  With about 80 shades available, at the time of this writing, you can see why it would be so popular. Perfect weight for the mid-gauge LK150 knitting machine.

Cherub Chunky. This yarn works up best as a light bulky weight. Ball band recommends 6 - 8mm needles or hooks. We tested it with a 6mm and found it was soft and somewhat loose. We also tested it with a 5.5mm and that gave the swatch a bit firmer hand.  This would be better for jackets and give more durability to blankets.  Works up well on the higher end of the mid-gauge LK150 Knitting MachineIt is available in about 45 shades.  Can't complain about that!!

To summarize our point, if you’re making a bunch of gifts or getting ready for a bazaar, you know how frustrating it is when yarns all behave differently. That’s why we keep coming back to recommending the Cherub lines. Knitcraft stocks all the colors in the four weights, so you can switch things up without having to relearn the yarn every time, and it’s still easy on the budget.
